TAMPA, Fla. — If your daily commute takes you through the busy stretch near West Kennedy Boulevard and North Himes Avenue, you will want to give yourself some extra time or map out an alternative route today.
Beginning at 9:00 a.m. today, June 29, city utility crews are shutting down multiple lanes to perform maintenance on the area’s water distribution system. The Tampa Water Department has closed the outside westbound lane on West Kennedy Boulevard between North Glen Avenue and North Sterling Avenue.
The utility work is also spilling over onto North Himes Avenue, affecting drivers trying to make turns. Commuters will find both the southbound right turn lane and the northbound left turn lane blocked off between West Roland Street and West North A Street.
Workers are placing barricades and signs throughout the area to help direct traffic flow and assist drivers in rerouting. Local officials are asking drivers to consider alternate routes to avoid delays, use caution when traveling through the construction zone, and keep in mind that modifications to these lane closures may be necessary as the project progresses…
