PASCO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Moffitt Cancer Center is unveiling its new ‘Proteus ONE’ machine; with it, they will be able to offer proton therapy to patients across the Tampa Bay Area.
This unique treatment is used to reduce the size of tumors near vital organs such as the brain, heart, and lungs because of its sub-millimeter precision.
“The ability to use protons and ship protons around the exact dimensions of the tumor to millimeter accuracy is novel, and this ability to do that really allows us to treat cancer cells only and spare all other normal tissues from exposure,” Dr. Kosj Yamoah, Chair of Moffitt’s Department of Radiation Oncology, said…
