Secrets of ‘Antiques Roadshow’ told at Toledo Museum of Art

Debra J. Force, one of the appraisers on Antiques Roadshow on PBS, has a lot of good stories about the show.

“There was a Victor Higgins painting of a landscape that was brought in by a man who had purchased the painting at a farmer’s auction for $5. He thought the painting could be worth $500,” Ms. Force said Sunday afternoon at the Toledo Museum of Art Glass Pavilion.

“On the show, I said it could be valued at $75,000,” she continued. “His family got a hold of me weeks later and we ended up selling the painting for $125,000. We gave him a check for $100,000. A few days later his bank called to make sure the check was legitimate.”…
