Lake Township trustees deny rezoning request for heavy industrial dump

LAKE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WTVG) — Lake Township trustees voted unanimously Tuesday to deny a rezoning request that would have converted a residential property at 508 Union Street in Walbridge into an M-2 heavy industrial dump.

The special meeting drew a packed room of Walbridge residents opposed to the proposal, which was brought by Thomas Keppler, the owner of the property, and Hillabrand & Sons Construction. The company had approached property Keppler about purchasing the site.

Property owner cites financial hardship

Keppler said he originally purchased the property to build a home for his parents.

“My dad passed. The economic situation I’ve had to go through in the last 18 months, had a couple clients go bankrupt, it has kind of put me in a position where I need to sell it,” Keppler said.
