Toledo offers new way for residents to explore accessible destinations

TOLEDO, Ohio — July marks Disability Pride Month, and to celebrate, the City of Toledo is launching a new way to help residents discover accessible parks, splash pads, playgrounds and adaptive recreation opportunities.

The Explore Without Limits Pass is a free digital pass that includes inclusive destinations that are designed for all abilities for residents to explore.

“July is recognized as Disability Pride Month to mark the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act,” Disability Manager Valerie Fatica said. “It highlights the contributions of people with disabilities and ongoing efforts to improve access and inclusion. The Department of Parks and Recreation work to spotlight accessible features at facilities so people with disabilities feel welcome and included.”

The city said the launch comes after Molly Henry, a Toledo resident, celebrated her birthday at the Jamie Farr splash pad. She helped form a conversation around making the splash pad experience possible for someone who uses an electric wheelchair, such as herself…
