Since reconstruction of Monroe Street’s bridge over U.S. 23 began in early March, Carol Thabit has eagerly watched its progress from her home on nearby Acres Road.
“I can get to Kroger now without having to go to Michigan and back,” Ms. Thabit said after a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday morning on the widened span, which is expected to open sometime Saturday after its five-month makeover.
While the dedication wasn’t officially a public event, nobody seemed to mind that Ms. Thabit walked in, especially since her dog Sullivan accompanied her and happily received scritches from anyone who offered a hand.
