Woodland Elementary School parents open snack pantry to honor former president

It’s been almost a year since beloved Woodland Parents’ Club president Nicole Hancock died from complications of breast cancer.

Since Mrs. Hancock died in June, members of the Parents’ Club at Woodland Elementary School in Perrysburg have looked for ways to honor her memory.

Because of her passion for “food-based healing” and having a healthy diet, the Woodland Parents’ Club has created Nicky’s Snack Shack, a snack pantry for students who don’t have access to them at home.

The Woodland Parents’ Club held a dedication Friday for Nicky’s Snack Shack in the school’s library, with Mrs. Hancock’s children, John, 9, and Kira, 7, cutting the ribbon.

The dedication saw several students and faculty stand in front of a black metal cabinet full of snacks, listening to speeches honoring Mrs. Hancock, one coming from her husband, Chris.

“I’m just really grateful for all of the people Nicky touched when she was working and being president of the Parents’ Club — the fact that they wanted to help her continue on with her lifelong desire to help kids,” Mr. Hancock said.
