Councilman expected to introduce moratorium to prevent demolition of TPS schools

A Toledo city councilman has proposed extending a moratorium on demolition permits for historic buildings after Toledo Public Schools announced its intention to close several buildings.

“I want to make sure, specifically, Harvard [Elementary School], that I’m doing everything I can to ensure that building gets stabilized and saved for whether it’s a school or a different purpose,” said Councilman Adam Martinez, who represents District 2.

The councilman plans to walk on legislation during council’s April 28 meeting that would essentially extend a previous moratorium on issuing demolition permits for historically significant, privately owned buildings…
