Neighborhood Health Association opening health center, ice cream parlor in Hensville

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Neighborhood Health Association plans open a 20th Century business concept in Hensville next month: a community health center combined with an ice cream parlor.

Doc Martin’s Remedy Shoppe and Apothecary is scheduled to open at 12 N. St. Clair St., across from Fricker’s, in late May, according to a press release Monday. A specific opening date was not provided, and events and hours of operation will be announced at a later time, according to the community health center.

The business will offer the following: a full-service pharmacy, medical clinics, dental clinics and behavioral health services, along with the sweet treats for sale. It aims to give a fresh coat of paint to a business pairing that has been mostly lost to time: soda fountains — a counter that sold fizzy drinks and ice cream — and apothecaries, precursors to modern pharmacies…
