Judge denies Exton’s insanity defense

After reviewing a doctor’s report, a Lucas County judge ruled Tuesday that a man accused of trying to kill his wife in a Warehouse District restaurant last year did not have a severe mental defect at the time.

Judge Gary Cook then set a July 20 trial date for Matthew Exton, who is charged with attempted murder and three counts of felonious assault for the April 11, 2025, incident in the Sabira restaurant at 139 S. Huron St.
