Flagstaff, Arizona – A Red Flag Warning remains in effect today for portions of eastern Arizona, where gusty winds and extremely low humidity are creating an elevated risk for wildfires. The warning is in place from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. MST, and extends through 8 p.m. for the Navajo Nation area.
According to the National Weather Service, southwest winds between 20 and 25 mph, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph, will continue throughout the day. Combined with relative humidity levels as low as 11%, these conditions can quickly cause fires to grow in size and intensity. Officials are urging residents to avoid any outdoor burning and take precautions to prevent fires from igniting.
The areas most affected by the warning include Navajo County, Apache County, and parts of Coconino County.
