OWASSO, Okla. – City leaders are considering a new roundabout at 96th Street and Mingo Road in Owasso. The project would also widen 96th Street between Mingo and Garnett.
What would the road changes include?
Plans call for a through lane in each direction, a center turn lane, sidewalks, and bike lanes along the corridor.
Why is Owasso considering a roundabout?
City officials say the goal is to improve traffic flow and safety. They point to studies showing roundabouts can reduce crashes by more than 30 percent and fatalities by 90 percent. Officials say this project could help with growth down the line in this corridor.
How do neighbors feel about it?
Opinions are mixed among residents near the intersection.
