Extreme Heat Watch returns to Portland early next week

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Portland National Weather Service has placed the greater Portland-Vancouver area under an Extreme Heat Watch for Monday and Tuesday, June 22 and June 23.

Portland could see afternoon highs return to the mid and upper 90s, similar to earlier this week. Temperatures could even reach 100 degrees in some areas.

This latest round of heat is expected to bring warm overnight lows. Early morning temperatures are expected to remain in the mid to upper 60s. That will not provide much time for those without proper means of cooling to find relief.

Making a cool shelter plan now will help lower the risk of heat-related illnesses. Staying hydrated, wearing loose-fitting, light-colored clothing, and taking breaks in the shade or indoors will also lower the risk of heat exhaustion or stroke.
