Portland-area vigils, fundraisers to support Venezuela earthquake victims

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) —  A Portland-area group hosted a community vigil on Sunday as Oregonians rally to support people in Venezuela following deadly earthquakes that left families in urgent need of aid.

Venezuela’s Voice in Oregon has been operating for 12 years to give back to vulnerable communities in Venezuela. They’re now pushing to mobilize the community to help give back after the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela that left more than 1,400 people dead and thousands displaced or missing.

Venezuela’s Voice in Oregon is hosting an open community vigil at 5 p.m. on Sunday at The Old Church Concert Hall in Portland, and at 7 p.m., there will be a mass at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Tigard.

“They’re finding a lot of children separated from their parents,” Venezuela’s Voice in Oregon President Dr. Giselle Rincón told KOIN 6 News. “So right now they need a lot of, anything about children, you know, children’s clothing, diapers, baby formula.”

Rincón added that many elderly people are now homeless and there are supplies needed to help them as well…
