Allstate report: Oregon cities vary in driver safety rankings

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Oregon is home to some of the nation’s safest drivers, just not in Portland, according to an Allstate report that ranked Eugene in the top 10, Salem in the top 75, and Portland as mid-tier.

A new Allstate report released for 2026 ranks Eugene No. 9 in the country, while Portland lands near the middle of the list at No. 107. Allstate uses its auto claims data to compare crash rates across the country and the damage they cause. This year, the insurance company also factored in individual driving habits like speeding, hard braking, and nighttime driving, which is taken from their Drivewise app that their customers can use.

Portland’s crash risk rate is 19.3% higher than the national average. There are roughly nine years in between collisions on average in Portland, according to the analysis…
