PEARL DISTRICT — As of Friday, July 31, Portland’s steakhouse lineup has a new addition in the Malarkey. Promising to be as much of a visual feast (with an eclectic interior design scheme) as an edible one, this new wood-fired steak and seafood grill comes from Central Oregon-born celebrity chef Brian Malarkey and his brother James, with Jose “Lalo” Camarena, formerly of República and Metlapíl, as executive chef. From the design to the ingredients, it’s a celebration of Pacific Northwest landscapes, culture, and flavor, featuring beef from the Malarkey family ranch in Central Oregon and seafood, with some Mexican American influences mixed in. Expect an over-the-top and energetic dining experience befitting Malarkey’s showman style of hospitality. 555 NW 12th Avenue
BEAVERTON — Coming from the team behind Don’s Favorite Foods and Burger Stevens (may it rest in peace), Italian deli Salami Mammi opened up over in Beaverton on Thursday, July 16. At this “Parm paradise,” sandwiches are the star of the show, with choices like chicken or eggplant Parm or piled-high cold cuts with fresh mozzarella served on sesame sourdough rolls. For a little extra oomph, order them fra diavolo-style with pickled and roasted hot peppers. Grab a side of Sicilian herb-spiced fries or garlic bread, plus a glass of wine, beer, or a cocktail to wash it all down. 12500 SW Broadway St, Beaverton
BEAVERTON — James Beard Award-winning chef Hajime Sato snuck his way into Oregon this summer with a new omakase counter spotlighting sustainably sourced seafood — much of it local to the region. Sato earned his medal for his work at a similarly formatted Eater Award-winning sushi counter in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan, and before that gained a following in Seattle at Mashiko. At Sazanami, he serves three different menu tiers at the 14-seat counter and promises dishes beyond nigiri. Seats are reservation-only. 10053 SW Nimbus Avenue
NORTHWEST — Studio Noto is embracing the tradition of Italian aperitivo happy hours in Northwest Portland with Bar Noto concept, which opened on Thursday, July 9. Located inside the same space as the store, Bar Noto offers a pared-down menu of spritzes, wine, nonalcoholic drinks, and snacks like tinned fish with crackers. Keeping up with the Italian theme, many of the wines offered come from Buona Notte winery out in the Columbia River Gorge, which specializes in Italian varietals. Indoor and outdoor seating is available, and the bar is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. 1932 NW Lovejoy
NORTHWEST — Opened on Friday, May 15, Jakarta Bistro joins Portland’s small but mighty Indonesian scene. Serving traditional dishes like rendang, tahu isi, batagor fish dumplings, and bakwan jagung corn fritters, owner Geni Baker shared in an email with Eater Portland that she hopes to recreate the feeling of dining at an auntie’s house, savoring home cooked meals and feeling comfortable and welcome. Order the nasi padang — a plate of white rice accompanied by a variety of dishes — to try many different recipes at once, including grilled chicken and beef rendang. For refreshments, there’s coffee, tea, and soda gembira. 1902 NW 24th Avenue…
