The Amtrak route that starts in Eugene has temporarily suspended a portion of its passenger rail service.
On Aug. 2, the vacant Centennial Mills warehouse in Portland caught fire. Portland Fire & Rescue put out the fire, but said it is concerned the 8-story, 116-year-old building could collapse because of fire damage and the city’s Building Engineer would need to conduct a more thorough analysis. In the meantime the street and the railroad tracks adjacent to the warehouse are closed.
Those railroad tracks are owned by Union Pacific but used by Amtrak Cascades, the passenger rail line that goes from Eugene to Vancouver, British Columbia. During the indefinite closure, the Portland to Vancouver, Washington, leg of that service is suspended…
