Gresham High student faces criminal charges for shooting hoax directed at school

A Gresham High School student who made social media posts threatening a school shooting is facing criminal charges.

Monday evening, Oct. 28, a 15-year old Gopher student posted multiple pictures and videos of guns, making threats about a school shooting. Those posts were spotted by a community member, who contacted the Gresham Police Department and reported the potential threat to officers.

An investigation was made, with assistance from the FBI, and the student responsible was identified. Officers spoke with the student, and after a thorough assessment of statements and evidence, determined the threat was a hoax. That student has been referred to the Juvenile Department.

“Although this hoax is concerning, the swift and thorough investigation demonstrates our commitment to the safety of our schools and students,” said Gresham Police Chief Travis Gullberg. “I want to thank those in the community who promptly brought the threat to our attention, so we could address it immediately.”

Gresham Police stayed in contact with Gresham-Barlow School District administrators so they were kept aware of the threats and investigation.
