Stormy Weather Ahead for Oregon: Rain and Snow Showers to Impact Portland Area

The National Weather Service in Portland has issued a forecast indicating ongoing rain and snow showers through Saturday, with a 15-25% chance of thunderstorms this evening and Friday evening. A robust weather system is currently affecting northwest Oregon and southwest Washington, leading to widespread showers and hazardous travel conditions due to winter weather advisories in place for the Cascades.

Snowfall is expected to accumulate 5 to 10 inches above 4,500 feet, prompting winter storm warnings for Marion, Linn, and Lane Counties. Trick-or-treaters are advised to carry rain gear as showers persist tonight, with potential thunderstorms bringing gusty winds, brief downpours, and even funnel clouds. Southerly winds are forecasted to strengthen, particularly along the central Oregon coast, with gusts reaching 30-40 mph. Although there’s a slight chance for wind gusts exceeding 58 mph, a high wind warning has not been issued due to uncertainty. Residents are encouraged to secure loose items outdoors as windy conditions may develop. Drier weather is expected mid-week following this storm system.
