Chesapeake teen honored for saving younger brother from drowning

CHESAPEAKE, Va. — A Chesapeake teenager is being recognized for a heroic act that saved his little brother’s life during a family trip to a lake.

Now, 16-year-old Alexander Hardison received a National Certificate of Merit from Scouting America after rescuing his brother, Brayden, from a near-drowning accident in 2024.

The incident happened at Kerr Lake, along the Virginia/North Carolina border, where the Hardison family regularly spends time boating and enjoying water activities during the summer months…
