NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A U.S. Navy sailor stationed in Norfolk was sentenced to five years in prison after he was found with thousands of files of child sexual abuse material (CSAM).
Sergio Octavio Garcia, 30, received the sentence on May 29 for purchasing and possessing the illicit content, which included the abuse of infants and toddlers, according to the Department of Justice.
Court documents state that Garcia used PayPal to purchase CSAM for $80 on May 15, 2023. Agents with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) interviewed Garcia and seized his electronic devices on April 21, 2024, while Garcia was onboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.
