Chesapeake teacher celebrated as ‘Everyday Hero’ after 47 years in education

CHESAPEAKE — Lisa Phillips is retiring after 47 years as a teacher — 43 of them at Deep Creek Elementary School in Chesapeake — and her students, colleagues, and family made sure she knew exactly what she means to them.

Dozens of former and current students lined the Deep Creek Middle School football field on June 9 to celebrate Phillips and her decades-long career. News 3 anchor Jessica Larche also joined the celebration to surprise Phillips with an Everyday Hero award.
