NORFOLK, Va — Hampton Roads Transit is preparing for a busy weekend as several major events are expected to bring thousands of additional visitors to the region. Juneteenth, Harborfest and Sail 250 festivities are all scheduled during the same three-day period, creating what transit officials expect to be one of the busiest weekends of the summer.
“We do expect several thousand more people than we’re used to, but we’re ready for that,” said HRT spokesperson Thomas Becher during the agency’s annual Media Day.
To help ease traffic congestion in popular destinations such as downtown Norfolk, HRT will offer free transit services on select routes throughout the weekend…
