Community members support homeless during Code Red air quality alert

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Health experts have warned all of us to be careful until the smoke clears in our area from recent Canadian wildfires, and that should happen soon. But until then, people who have to be outside face that extra risk associated with unhealthy air.

VDH weighs in on Code Red air quality alert

From construction workers, to our neighbors experiencing homelessness, some people will remain outside on the frontlines during this Code Red air quality alert. If that’s you, take extra precaution.

“If you do have to be outdoors, you need to avoid strenuous activities like running or mowing the lawn,” said Virginia Department Of Health Toxicology Health Educator Cassandra Gabbert said.
