YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — It’s a theme seen quite often. You’re scrolling away on your phone and something catches your eye that you want to buy from someone on social media.
So when you jump on the deal, all that’s left is to pick up the item. But that dreamlike deal can turn into a nightmare — fast. That’s exactly what happened at a Williamsburg-area Wawa July 22, where the dream of getting a deal on something you want turned into a nightmare armed robbery, according to York-Poquoson Sheriff Ron Montgomery.

“The suspect who was sitting inside a vehicle, he was a passenger in a car a female was driving, he pulled out a pistol and robbed the individual and then fled,” Montgomery said. “A lot of people use social media and there are some really good deals out there. They went to a fairly well-lit and heavily trafficked business. But they drove to the back rear of the parking lot where there’s not very many people.”
Investigators say the accused were caught with the help of surveillance cameras, capturing the entire scene at that Wawa. But Montgomery said there’s a better alternative for these meetings…
