Gun evidence, vehicle led police to arrests in deadly interstate shooting

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Court documents indicate gun and vehicle evidence led state and local police to arrest two people in the shooting death early Tuesday morning of Alexis Styles. 19, who was shot and killed on Interstate 264 as her stepfather, Cortez Ames, was taking her to her new job at Biscuits & Bird restaurant.

Asia Wiggins, 20, has been charged with accessory after the fact, and Jamir Bennett, 19, has been charged with possession of a gun by a convicted felon. Bennett was convicted earlier this year of eluding police, assault on a law enforcement officer and carrying a concealed weapon. Both Wiggins and Bennett are in jail and have bond hearings Monday, July 27.

Police stated in the criminal complaint that a purple Lexus followed Ames’ burgundy Nissan from Styles’ home, down Campostella Road and then onto I-264 eastbound. Near the Ballentine Boulevard exit, a bullet came through the passenger window, killing Styles. Her father said Friday that he believes Styles and/or Ames were targeted…
