VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Parts of Hampton Roads, the Eastern Shore and northeastern North Carolina experienced severe weather Tuesday evening as thunderstorms and heavy rain rolled through the region and the threat of tornadoes loomed with several warnings in different parts of the WAVY viewing area, but none have been confirmed.
WAVY viewers shared photos of at least one waterspout over the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel, and there were thunderstorms and heavy rain that moved through the Peninsula, Southside, the Eastern Shore and northeastern North Carolina Tuesday evening and into the overnight hours Wednesday. WAVY Chief Meteorologist Jeff Edmondson said, as of 11:45 p.m. Tuesday, that areas across Hampton Roads could expect to see a few more scattered thunderstorms and showers through about 1 a.m. Wednesday.
