PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — A man accused of firing at Virginia State Police officers during a barricade incident earlier this year had all his firearm related charges certified, including attempted second-degree murder.
Charles Nichols III, 33, faces attempted second-degree murder and multiple firearms charges stemming from a Feb. 14 standoff at a Harbor Vista apartment on Crawford Street, where authorities were attempting to execute a narcotics search warrant.

During Wednesday’s preliminary hearing, prosecutors called six witnesses, including four Virginia State Police troopers and two detectives.
State Trooper Rivera, the entry team leader, testified that officers arrived at Apartment 422 on the building’s fourth floor to serve the search warrant.
