Wisconsin mother urges federal action on online safety after son’s death

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Northern News Now) – The mother of a Wisconsin teen who died by suicide after being a victim of sexual extortion was in the nation’s capital Tuesday, calling on lawmakers to do more to keep kids safe online.

Brittney Bird is the mother of Bradyn Bohn, who died by suicide last March. Bohn was from Kronenwetter, near Wausau.

Bird’s son’s case eventually led to the signing of Bradyn’s Law in Wisconsin, which makes sextortion a felony crime in the state.

Bird and other family members of people who fell victim to online crimes called on lawmakers to take action at the federal level.

“My first thought is it’s absolutely heartbreaking. None of us should be here,” Bird said. “These groups have been doing this for coming up on four years now. And there hasn’t been a change. If four years ago there would have been a change, my son would be here. Countless children would still be here.”…
