DC attorney general suing Ward 4 landlord amid poor living conditions, retaliation accusations

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — DC Attorney General Brian Schwalb announced that the District is suing a landlord in Ward 4 for what, he said, was “dangerous and illegal housing conditions.”

Schwalb posted on X just before 9 a.m. on June 29 to announce the lawsuit, citing that tenants have dealt with rodents, pests, fire hazards, outages and disrepair for years. The District’s attorney also accused the landlord of retaliating against tenants who spoke up about the conditions.

“Tenants were warned to not allow investigators into their units and stop working with organizers,” Schwalb wrote on X. “And mere days after the tenants’ association president and vice-president helped organize OAG visits to the buildings, they were both served eviction notices.”
