DC police looking to identify young girl found on Southern Avenue in Southeast

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — D.C. police are looking to identify a young girl found in Southeast overnight in an effort to locate her family.

The Metropolitan Police Department said that the girl, who is believed to be about 6 years old, was found in the 1300 block of Southern Avenue SE around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday morning.

Officials described the child as weighing 50 to 60 pounds, standing 3 to 3 feet 5 inches tall, with black hair and brown eyes. She was found wearing a blue shirt, pink Crocs and black pants with pink stripes.

Police noted that the girl may be nonverbal.
