Palmetto State culture comes to D.C. for Fourth of July weekend

COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolinians are representing their state at the Great American State Fair in Washington, D.C., this Fourth of July weekend as part of the America 250 celebration.

The state spent roughly $500,000 building its booth, according to the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism.

What’s inside the booth

Exhibits inside the booth highlight what makes South Carolina unique. Front porch rocking chairs, Catawba pottery, sweetgrass baskets, and a putting green inspired by the state’s golf courses are among the experiences on display.

A cornhole setup is also drawing crowds, a nod to the tailgate culture tied to South Carolina’s college football fanbase…
