COLLEGE PARK, Md. — A heat kink is believed responsible for the Saturday, July 4, derailment of a DC Metrorail train that sent one person to a hospital for further evaluation.
Eleven people were on board the train when one car derailed about 11:50 a.m. near the College Park Station. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority reported the heat kink as the cause in a social media post, and said it had reduced above-ground speeds to 35 mph as a result. WTOP Radio reports the speed restriction is agency policy when track temperature exceeds 135 degrees.
Along with the one person who was transported, another refused treatment, the Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department said on social media. WMATA said there were no serious injuries…
