Homicide suspect dies from self-inflicted gunshot wound in Harford County following police pursuit

EDGEWOOD, Md. — A Prince George’s County homicide suspect died Friday morning from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound following a police pursuit that ended near the entrance of Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland State Police said.

Authorities identified the driver as Charles Glenroy Smellie Jr., 41, of Forestville, Maryland. Smellie was the sole occupant of a white 2026 BMW 330i.

Members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force notified state police around 8 a.m. of a pursuit involving a homicide suspect traveling along Interstate 95 in Baltimore County.
