A Beltsville woman is facing charges after Howard County Police say she left a nonverbal man unattended in a parked minivan for nearly an hour while she lunched at a nearby restaurant in the Merriweather District. The man’s mother confirmed that he has autism.
According to charging documents, the vehicle was left parked in the Symphony Woods Garage with the windows “slightly open.” Police said the temperature that day reached the high 80s.
Kymora Sanders, 26, was charged July 31 with abuse of a vulnerable adult and reckless endangerment in the July 23 incident. Sanders was employed at the time of her arrest by Richcroft Inc., a Maryland-based company that provides services to people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities.
