Metro Shares Progress Update on Red Line Construction During Summer Shutdown

Metro shared new photos and an update Sunday, August 9, showing progress on major Red Line construction underway during the two-month summer shutdown between North Bethesda and Friendship Heights.

According to Metro, crews are continuing to reconstruct the platforms at Grosvenor-Strathmore station while preparing Bethesda station for its future connection to the Purple Line. Work at Bethesda includes construction of a second mezzanine and new escalators that will eventually provide a connection between the two rail systems.

The Red Line shutdown began July 6 and is scheduled to continue through September 6. During the closure, trains are not operating between North Bethesda and Friendship Heights, with free shuttle buses serving affected stations…
