AG Schwalb wins $279K for DC janitors involved in wage theft plot

WASHINGTON (7News) — D.C. Attorney General Brian L. Schwalb announced that two companies will pay a total of $279,000 to janitorial workers and the District to resolve a workers’ rights lawsuit filed by the Office of the Attorney General (OAG).

The OAG filed a lawsuit against Jan-Pro Franchising International, Inc. (JPI) and Nabicorp Enterprises Inc. (Jan-Pro of Washington).

The lawsuit alleged that these companies participated in a scheme to misclassify workers. They promised janitors independence and opportunities for entrepreneurial success, but instead treated them as employees, denying the benefits mandated by DC law…
