Pedestrian killed while crossing Beltway in hit and run crash

A pedestrian was pronounced dead Thursday night following a hit-and-run crash on the outer loop of the I-495 Beltway, east of Connecticut Avenue, according to Maryland State Police.

State troopers from the Rockville Barrack of the state police responded to the scene at around 10 p.m. A preliminary investigation revealed that the motorist parked a work van on the left shoulder of the inner loop and attempted to cross the outer loop travel lanes by foot, according to police. He had a gas can with him when he was struck by oncoming traffic.

The victim’s identity has not been released. He was pronounced dead by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services personnel…
