WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced in West Palm Beach on Monday that state is suing OpenAI and CEO Sam Altman, accusing the company of putting children at risk by marketing ChatGPT as safe while allegedly failing to address serious dangers tied to the artificial intelligence chatbot.
The lawsuit, filed in Highlands County, is what Uthmeier called the nation’s first state-led legal challenge against OpenAI. Florida alleges the company violated the state’s Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act by prioritizing growth and profits over user safety.
