Afternoon storms target inland areas as summer heat settles in

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (WPEC) — South Florida will see another round of scattered showers and thunderstorms this afternoon and early evening, with the greatest coverage expected across inland areas.

The day will start largely dry before sea breezes—winds moving inland from the coast—help trigger storm development during the afternoon. With lighter winds than recent days, some storms may also drift closer to the western suburbs of the east coast metro areas. While widespread severe weather is not expected, a few stronger storms could produce gusty winds, and localized flooding cannot be ruled out where heavier downpours occur.

Temperatures will remain firmly in summer territory. Highs will reach the upper 80s to low 90s, while humidity will push heat index values into the 100 to 105 degree range. Anyone spending extended periods outdoors should stay hydrated and take frequent breaks from the heat.
