Palm Beach noise committee seeks FAA answers on flight paths near Mar-a-Lago

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — Palm Beach County airport officials are being asked to provide more answers about flight paths, aircraft noise, and how decisions are being made around Palm Beach International Airport.

The requests came during the latest Citizens’ Committee on Airport Noise meeting, where members discussed several issues tied to the airport, including the county’s lawsuit against the FAA, a major runway project, the airport’s upcoming name change, and new flight path data. Many of the concerns are connected to flight restrictions around Mar-a-Lago, which have been the subject of previous CBS12 coverage.

County staff said Palm Beach County’s legal challenge against the FAA is moving forward. The county filed its opening brief on June 9. The FAA’s response is due July 9, though staff said an extension is expected. The lawsuit is not directly challenging the flight paths themselves. Instead, the county argues the FAA failed to complete required environmental and noise studies before making changes that affected airport operations and nearby neighborhoods…
