WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (CBS12) — A 21-year-old West Palm Beach man was arrested early May 1 following an investigation into alleged social media threats involving a public charter school in Palm Beach County.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said that Dylan Crown was taken into custody at his residence on Cotton Bay Drive and charged with multiple offenses, including written threats to kill, a written threat to conduct a mass shooting or terrorism act, unlawful use of a two-way communication device to facilitate a felony, and obstructing an officer without violence, arrest records show.
The investigation began after school officials at the Career Academy of the Palm Beaches were alerted to threatening messages sent through Instagram involving a gun and violence at the school. The school, which serves students with disabilities, submitted a tip through the FortifyFL system after learning of the messages, according to a probable cause affidavit.
Deputies said the threats were sent on April 29 through an Instagram account and referenced plans to bring a firearm onto campus the following day. The messages allegedly named specific students and included statements about killing multiple people at the school.
