20-year-old faces 50 felonies in police-car crime spree across Palm Beach County

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (CBS12) — A 20-year-old man is facing the wrath of the law after being accused of a staggering 50 felonies linked to a brazen crime spree that specifically targeted law enforcement vehicles across Palm Beach County.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said that the crime wave, which officials said unfolded between November 2025 and April 2026, involved a series of incidents where James L. Gaines allegedly broke into both civilian cars and multiple police vehicles, making off with firearms, body armor, and crucial law enforcement equipment.
