Late-night pizza stop ends in gunfire, man on probation faces attempted murder

BELLE GLADE, Fla. (CBS12) — A quick trip for pizza inside a Belle Glade convenience store took a violent turn when a man on probation allegedly opened fire on another customer on Saturday.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said that the shooting happened around 2:50 a.m. on May 16 at Bobby Market at 340 SW Sixth Street. Deputies were called to the store after reports of a shooting, but by the time they arrived, the injured person had already left the scene.

Authorities said the person who was shot went to a nearby fire rescue station for assistance before being transported to Lakeside Medical Center and later airlifted to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach due to the severity of the injuries. Investigators said the individual suffered multiple gunshot wounds, including one to the face, underwent surgery, and was listed in critical but stable condition.

Back at the store, deputies found evidence of a chaotic scene. Investigators reported a trail of what appeared to be blood leading from the entrance toward a nearby intersection. At least eight 9mm shell casings were recovered, one outside the entrance and seven inside between the doorway and the cashier’s counter. A pizza box with its contents damaged was found on the floor along with a receipt, a plastic bag, and soda bottles. A yellow “wet floor” sign was also knocked over…
