WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A bench trial held Wednesday led to a verdict of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect in a Kansas couple’s death.
In May 2023, Jimmy Guinn III was accused of stealing a pickup and leading law enforcement on chase that ended in a head-on crash. Nathaniel Ashworth, 19, of Wichita and his soon-to-be fiancée, 20-year-old Alyna Elder from Rose Hill, were killed in the collision.
Guinn was later charged with two counts of first-degree murder or, in the alternative, two counts of second-degree murder. He was also charged with two counts of fleeing and eluding law enforcement and one count of theft.
While Guinn was found not guilty of those charges, he is not being released from custody. Instead, he will be committed to Larned State Hospital for evaluation…
