A dry day, then a stormy evening

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Meteorologist Jake Dunne says we are waking up to a few showers, mainly across north central Kansas, but the day ahead looks mainly dry and warmer. Decreasing clouds will allow temperatures to top out in the near normal lower to middle 80s this afternoon.

The next batch of storms will get started across the southwest corner of the state after 5 p.m. and then move east this evening and night. The storms won’t arrive in the Wichita area until after 8 p.m. so while the Riverfest Parade looks dry, late evening plans are at risk of getting wet. While widespread severe weather is not expected, some storms may be strong with small hail and gusty winds.

The weekend won’t be completely dry, but the chance of storms will start to drop. Isolated storms early Saturday morning will be followed by a dry afternoon. Additional storms are possible, if not likely Saturday evening, mainly over central and eastern Kansas. Any storm that forms this weekend could turn severe with large hail and damaging wind the main concerns…
