Storm Track 3 Forecast: Tonight’s chance for rain before turning hot, windy

*NEW* SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH is in effect until 3 AM Saturday for parts of Western Kansas and most of the Oklahoma Panhandle.Primary threats include…*Scattered damaging winds and isolated significant gusts to 75 mph possible.*Scattered large hail to 1.5 inches in diameter.*A tornado cannot be ruled out.

There is a boundary sitting over southeast Kansas and it has stalled.  This will enable new isolated showers and storms to blossom.  Overnight, storms will move out of eastern Colorado and into Western Kansas.  As this tracks eastward, new scattered showers and storms will develop over our Southcentral counties, including the Wichita area.  This could produce locally heavy rainfall over already saturated ground.

Flood warnings are still in effect and anything that develops overnight will only keep the issue going into the weekend. A storm or two could also produce marginally severe hail and damaging winds.

The pattern flips this weekend to a drier, hotter and windier one.  That said, a few storms may try to form south of Dodge City near the Oklahoma state line Saturday and Sunday evenings.  Most of our viewing area will be largely drying out with highs climbing into the 90s.  Sunday looks hotter with some spots in the west hitting the century mark.  The wind will also ramp up.  Gusts Sunday and Monday could get as high as 40 MPH.  The heat continues into next week.  Highest humidity will be east of I-135 and drier to the west.  Evening and overnight storms look to develop over western Kansas Monday and Tuesday.  Later next week could turn more active for areas farther east, including Wichita.
