Emotional support dog dies, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office says

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday announced the death of its emotional support dog due to cancer.

The sheriff’s office says Cherokee was donated by the Wichita Animal Action League in 2021 to serve in the Victim Advocate’s Office. Two years later, she transitioned to a peer support role with her handler, Lt. Fabiola Torres.

Cherokee regularly visited the jail, spent time with staff across all shifts, was known for her love of treats and took her nightly walks around the jail grounds seriously, the sheriff’s office said…
