Tillie’s Flower Shop Day declared in Wichita

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Wichita’s second-oldest continuously operating business is celebrating 150 years of service on Friday, and the city council is recognizing the achievement.

Since its establishment in 1876 — only six years after Wichita was incorporated — Tillie’s Flower Shop has helped people celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, holidays and other milestones.

In recognition of the store’s dedication to Wichita, the city council approved a proclamation on Tuesday naming Aug. 14, 2026, as Tillie’s Flower Shop Day.

“One hundred fifty years of service is an extraordinary achievement that reflects resilience, dedication and a lasting contribution to the economic and cultural life of our community,” the proclamation says in part.

On its anniversary, Tillie’s will also give back by delivering 150 roses each to 20 nonprofits and hand out 60,000 roses — a dozen at a time — to its customers…
