Sedgwick County jail population rising, sheriff begins shipping inmates out of county

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Sedgwick County Sheriff Jeff Easter told county commissioners on Tuesday that the jail population is climbing after two years of lower numbers, and that his office has begun transferring inmates to facilities in other counties.

The Sedgwick County Jail has just over 1,400 beds. Easter said there are currently around 1,350 inmates housed there.
